At the first Indonesian restaurant in France, located in Paris’s 6th arrondissement, Chang Hsin met the current owner, Anita.
Anita’s father, Sobron Aidit, founded the restaurant and was also an Indonesian political exile; her uncle, D.N. Aidit, was the chairman of the Indonesian Communist Party and was captured and executed by the military in 1965.
Through Anita’s fragmented childhood memories, as well as historical documents, Hsin has been piecing together and imagining the story of the Aidit family.
This is an ongoing project. Hsin plans to travel to Belitung Island, Indonesia, later this year (2025) to visit the birthplace of Sobron Aidit and D.N. Aidit.
