Last April Rain 四月望雨 is an exhibition curated by Chang Hsin, developed alongside her early research on Indonesian restaurants in Paris. The exhibition features two works, Dear Irfan I and The Souvenir, which explore the historical and cultural connections between Indonesia and Taiwan.
Inspired by Deng Yu-hsien, the “Father of Taiwanese Folk Songs,” the exhibition takes its name from four of his songs: Four Seasons Red(四季紅), Moonlit Sorrow(月夜愁), Longing for Spring Breeze(望春風) and Rainy Night Flower(雨夜花). Together with Hu Hsin-fangand Cheng Yin-chen, the artists present artworks, publications, performances, and lectures that offer different interpretations of these songs.
The works guide viewers from rain-soaked, dreamlike landscapes to reflections on historical memory and cultural identity, culminating in abstract explorations of the gap between images and real people.
