The Green Screen Trilogy consists of three live performances developed from the documentary film Don’t Want To Fade: Indomie, Épingler, and Tian Mi Mi. While the three works echo one another in form, each explores its own independent subject without forming a continuous narrative.
Using the green screen as a symbol of the boundary between the real and the virtual, the trilogy explores the notion of “authenticity” in images, particularly documentary images, as a form of memory through live performance. By interweaving and juxtaposing fieldwork materials with live performance, the works recount a series of unexpected events that unfold following the artist’s encounter with Anita, an Indonesian political exile. They also trace the artist’s observations and experiences of shifting identity as a Taiwanese artist working between Indonesia and France.
